You know that restaurant you have heard so much about but every inch of you is just scared of what’ll happen to your pocket if you step foot there? Yh, that was Nok for me. So when the opportunity presented itself, I was happy to see what all the hype was about.
It was a Friday evening and given the third mainland bridge situation in Lagos right now, that meant we had to spend hours in traffic. Thankfully we were in an Uber and I could marvel at my date for as long as I needed. The journey was stressful but even at that I could already tell it was going to be a good night. Our Uber driver was respectful enough to keep quiet and give us a bomb-ass playlist. We smiled and analyzed every person/thing that caught our attention while in transit. 4 long hours later, we got to VI.
I was in awe of the building. There’s a huge showroom where they sell clothes and art pieces. I don’t know about you, but I know I can’t afford the cheapest thing in that store. It’s fine, I’m not their target audience. Even more relieved that the store was not open due to the coronavirus but trust me to check the prices online. Anyway, right behind this showroom is the dining area, there’s an outdoor and an indoor dining area. The decor was breathtaking, everything from the entrance to the walkway to the showroom to the dining areas spoke bougie, culture and romance. It was kinda packed outside, so we opted for the intimacy indoors. It was spectacular, dim-lit, private and just nice
When we settled, we were greeted by a waiter who had the warmest smile. He introduced the restaurant to us and gave us the menu. To my utmost surprise, the pricing wasn’t bad at all and that made me regret not going earlier. If there’s a grade higher than A* I’ll give it to the staff. Listen, I have been to countless restaurants but I have never seen professionalism and excellence in this manner. They were cordial, didn’t stare awkwardly, and always had a smile. Every single one of them. I lowkey felt like I was Beyonce every time I was attended to. They knew the menu like the back of their hands and we’re so helpful every time.
We wanted to sort out drinks, while we waited for food. A glass of wine cost 6500 at least, and that didn’t help ‘cause my date and I are “wineaholics” We figured by the time we got 3 glasses each, it’ll almost be the same price as a whole bottle, So we opted for the whole bottle 💀 Yes it was pricy, but if you’re thinking it – you can get a bottle between 15k and 100k. I can’t explain all the serenren that came with the bottle of wine, first a lecture on what, who and where the wine was produced, an ice bucket and stand, then gloves and glass preferences followed by a tasting. It was worth it, the wine was good! It tasted like money would taste, it was soft, not too sweet and just right. Did I mention that every time my glass was getting empty, one guy would mysteriously appear to refill it? Lmaoo. He was always there at the right time.
Food! Oouu. The not-so-good part. The menu wasn’t as diverse as I expected so even though it seemed like it, there weren’t many options to choose from. We ordered Lime and coconut prawns and the Jasmine rice and coconut stew. I wouldn’t say the rice was the best taste-wise. I was already getting full from the wine (the case of my appetite is a story for another day) The coconut prawns, on the other hand, were delicious. I knew because I couldn’t stop stretching to the other end of the table to eat his food. The stew had large chunks of meat, most of them were bony so there was no way I could’ve enjoyed it, even if I tried.
Just before we left, he went to use the restroom, only to come back dying of laughter. He had gone into the ladies’ room instead of the men’s room and didn’t notice until he came out to wash his hands and found himself amidst women. He embarrassingly apologized and came out laughing. He swore it wasn’t the wine, but we all know the truth.
We chatted a bit more. We were wine-drunk and ready to leave. The ride back was surreal, it was even better than the ride to. Just picture two tipsy people in the back of an Uber. It was fun till our driver started playing Christian songs (1 star) We ignored his numerous attempts to kill our vibe and continued to be annoying.
Just as I got home, Favour and Bolade were about to ask the usual (what happened to your lipgloss) question. I smiled and said “don’t ask”
